Organ Transplant Vs. Bureaucracy

I am angry at the DAMN bureaucrat who made the ruling that is killing a lovely person who is struggling to live - a delightful young woman who is well along the road to recovery from acute alcoholism. She's been active in the A.A. program of recovery for several months and it's obvious to we who know her that it's working.

What isn't working is her liver. Her skin is the deepest yellow I've ever seen. She's in and out of hospitals weekly. Those who know of such things tell me that her chances of survival is slim without a liver transplant. But she can't get one.

She can't get one because an arbitrary bureaucratic ruling says she must wait until July. Can she live that long in her present condition? Maybe.

She's the kind of person that everyone wants to help, but tragically cannot. She doesn't weep or whine. She grits her teeth and says that she lives "One day at a time." Many of us are praying for her.

Dear Sen. Obama

The media is having a field-day with Obama's clever retort, "If I am not ready, how is it that you think I should be such a great vice president?

How come no one has come up with the obvious reply, "Because, young man,  as VP, you'd be in the best position to learn from a professional."

Our failing Political System

While I have strong feelings regarding the upcoming presidential election, I am more bothered by the potentially disastrous failings of our political system in Washington.

A example of how this works, or I should say, "doesn't work" is the following paragraph taken from a recent discussion on a prominent political figure. To remove it from the current partisan feeding frenzy, I've removed names of the people involved and mention of their party affiliation.

"_____ wanted to vote to confirm ______ for the Supreme Court, for
example — he/she thought the president deserved latitude when it
came to appointments — but ______ advised against it, pointing out
that ______ would be reminded of the vote every time the court made
a [partisan] ruling that he/she found objectionable."

Is this not a classic example of putting one's own political future over feelings of what's best for the country?
