Longtime Hollywood publicist Julian Myers worries the end may be near for Hollywood.
He frets that the WGA stalemate -- with all of its acrimony, vitriol and job losses -- is a harbinger of ill things for the industry.
Says Myers, "The strike impasse is speeding the end of Hollywood filmmaking and television production."
As I see it, Hollywood has been going down hill ever since it turned against America.
Remember movies back in WW2? After Pearl Harbor Hollywood enlisted in the war cause with movie titles like "Sunday in Hawaii," "Yellow Peril," and "V for Victory." Hollywood's contribution to the war effort and morale was significant. Many of their movies were patriotic rallying cries that affirmed a sense of national purpose. Combat films of the war years emphasized patriotism, group effort, and the value of individual sacrifices for a larger cause.
They made it clear that the war was everyone's war, that we all had to make sacrifices and pitch in. Remember insuficient "A" gas cards and that greasy white stuff that came in a plastic bag so we could knead in the little orange dot? They called it a substitute for butter. BARF!
Hollywood people backed up their ideas with action. In less than a year, 12 percent of all film industry employees entered the armed forces, including Clark Gable, Henry Fonda, and Jimmy Stewart. By the war's end, one-quarter of Hollywood's male employees were in uniform, and many won citations for heroism.
Today's wartime movies slam our President and make every effort to make our war against terrible forces appear wrong and misguided. And oh yes; they are working hard at undermining any sense of decency left in our country.
Is today's Hollywood failing? I sincerely hope so.
